Description
Foreword
Some stories begin with a grand idea. Others begin with a dog. This one began with Zelda.
Zelda is a real spaniel who lives on Dartmoor with her mum in a geodesic dome, surrounded by seedlings and moorland and the particular magic that settles over that ancient landscape like morning mist. She is white and brown and thoroughly herself, and if you have ever known a spaniel you will understand immediately that she is entirely capable of everything that follows in these pages.
Dartmoor is also real. The West Dart River is real. Two Bridges Hotel has stood on that spot since the 1790s, and its famous geese have been processing across that lawn with magnificent self-importance for as long as anyone can remember. The old millstone stands on the hotel lawn in plain sight, its great hole open to the sky, while guests sit nearby with their cream teas and think nothing of it.
